As the colder months are upon us, I begin to think how much I really enjoy the winter and it's many facets. You don't feel half bad staying in, people tend to act less insane and then there is layering. One can add or subtract as many articles of clothing they deem necessary. Now that I am on the topic of layering I will mention a relatively important element of said activity. The sweater. A sweater can be worn in several ways:
-over an undershirt
-on its own (often with itchy results)
-wrapped around the waist (the wool fanny pack)
-tied around shoulders (the yuppie noose)
-by a seminal figure in the Norwegian Black Metal scene (Grishnackh is getting angry)
Leave it to Burzum mastermind, Count Grishnackh, to include in his reasons for hating and eventually stabbing the hell out of Euronymous, the donning of a white sweater. Granted, the white sweater was not the sole reason for the murder but I can't help but believe that this launches the garment on to the list of 'what not to wear'.
Perhaps, sweaters have too many sleeves.

Featured Flashback: STONE

I wish that there was some way I could repay my Finnish penpals from elementary and middle school for sending me one of my favorite Scandinavian contributions to metal. Fucking STONE! Nothing I ever read about in Hit Parader or Circus (during recess) ever held a candle to this band. Stone really helped make the riff a part of my everyday life. Yes, guitarist Roope Latvala provided inspiriation for Children of Bodom and later joined the Hot Topic shredder, Alexi Laiho, but don't let that ruin your love affair with these guys. Also, make sure you check out the lyrics. I'm not sure if they intentionally wrote them or had an asshole/brilliant translator. Enjoy.

Salome, Hull and Batillus Fucking Shred!

A big thanks to everyone that came out on that rainy and gloomy night to see Salome, Hull and Batillus at Kung Fu Necktie. All the bands were awesome and we hope to have them back again. Batillus kicked things off with skull-splitting riffs and decibel levels comparable to putting your ear up to the tail pipe of any GM vehicle with a big block 454. Hull came on next and the onslaught continued. Four vocalists, three guitars and three full stacks overshadowed the rumble of the elevated train just 50 feet away. The nice chaps in Hull even shared kind words about the evening in their Decibel-Deciblog entry. They will be continuing to chronicle the Beard Destroyer Tour every step of the way. So follow it.

Closing out the evening was Salome. They sealed the night with a fist! Fucking awesome! If you haven't seen Salome, do so. The sounds that come out of Kat will scare the shit out of you. Not to mention the fault-line causing rig hooked up to the guitar.
